Pinterest’s Gen Labels Reveal What’s Really Behind Your Feed

As generative AI (Gen AI) continues to fuel creativity, Pinterest is addressing user calls for greater clarity and agency over AI-generated content on its platform. The company has announced the worldwide launch of features designed to label AI-altered images and empower users to tailor their feeds.
AI Content Labels: Clarity at a Glance
Pins identified as AI-generated or modified will now display an “AI modified” label in the bottom-left corner when viewed up close. Pinterest employs a dual approach: analyzing image metadata and deploying proprietary classifiers to detect AI content, even without obvious markers. While the system is being refined for accuracy, creators can appeal to mislabeled content.

User Control Takes Center Stage
Expanding beyond labels, Pinterest is testing a “see fewer” option for AI content in categories like beauty and art. Users can access this via the three-dot menu on a Pin, signaling the algorithm to reduce similar recommendations. The feature will gradually extend to other areas, aligning with Pinterest’s goal to balance inspiration with user preference.
I really wanted some kind of version of pinterest for AI image gen/video gen so i could save and use the prompts other people are using since it's still some what of an art to figure out how to actually make good quality outputs.

CTO Matt Madrigal emphasized the platform’s commitment to “thoughtful” AI integration, ensuring tools enhance, rather than overshadow, authentic discovery. “Gen AI should empower users to act on their inspiration,” he noted, underscoring Pinterest’s focus on responsible innovation.
Pinterest plans to expand its AI toolkit, building on initiatives like improved content detection and user controls. For now, users can explore the Help Center for details on the platform’s AI policies. By blending transparency with customization, Pinterest aims to foster trust while harnessing AI’s creative potential.

Xiaomi’s ChatGPT Killer? Open-Source ‘MiMo’ AI Model Declares War on Big Tech

Xiaomi has entered the competitive world of artificial intelligence by launching its own open-source AI model, MiMo, joining a wave of Chinese tech companies racing to advance in a field heavily backed by Beijing.
Known primarily for its smartphones and recent venture into electric vehicles, Xiaomi announced MiMo as a reasoning model designed to emulate human problem-solving, similar to DeepSeek’s R1.

In a post on WeChat, the company claimed MiMo outperformed OpenAI’s o1-mini and Alibaba’s Qwen in benchmark tests, though these results have not been independently confirmed by Bloomberg.
The launch came just a day after Alibaba revealed an upgraded version of its own flagship AI model, adding momentum to a rapidly intensifying competition among Chinese AI developers.
Xiaomi stated that MiMo marks the beginning of its newly formed core AI model team. “While starting in 2025 may appear late, we see the pursuit of artificial general intelligence (AGI) as a long-term mission,” the company said.
The announcement helped lift Xiaomi’s shares by more than 5% in Hong Kong, with other Chinese AI-related stocks also rising following state media coverage of President Xi Jinping’s visit to an AI tech incubator, highlighting the Chinese government’s endorsement of domestic AI initiatives.

MiMo is Xiaomi’s first significant AI product, despite earlier hints from company executives about plans to invest in the space. The release follows Xiaomi’s high-profile $10 billion entry into the electric vehicle market in 2024, which founder Lei Jun described as his “final startup journey.”
The company faced a setback earlier this year when it delayed the launch of its first SUV due to a fatal crash involving one of its electric cars. Xiaomi’s stock fell about 15% after the incident. However, the company clarified via Weibo that its YU7 SUV is still scheduled for release in June or July.

Select partners gain early access to specialized tools, including:
Automated Sensitive Doc Classification: Applies security labels to internal documents.
AI Threat Detectors: Tools like Llama Generated Audio Detector and Audio Watermark Detector to identify scams/phishing.
Privacy-Centric AI for WhatsApp
Meta previewed Private Processing, an AI-driven feature for WhatsApp that summarizes or refines unread messages without Meta or WhatsApp accessing content. The company emphasized collaboration with security researchers to audit and refine the architecture before rollout, ensuring end-to-end privacy.
Meta’s initiatives highlight its open-source ethos, inviting developer and researcher input to harden AI systems against emerging threats. By merging cutting-edge security tools with privacy innovations, the company aims to set new benchmarks in responsible AI deployment.
Nadella vs. Altman: The Ghibli-Sized Clash Exposing Their AI Alliance Crack-Up

A Wall Street Journal report claims OpenAI and Microsoft, once AI collaborators, are drifting apart as CEOs Sam Altman and Satya Nadella vie for dominance in the AI race. However, a whimsical social media exchange between the two leaders has sparked speculation about their rapport.
Ghibli-Style Gesture Fuels Speculation
Altman shared an AI-generated Studio Ghibli-inspired portrait of himself and Nadella on X (formerly Twitter), captioning it: “Fun showing @satyanadella our new office and talking about some of our latest progress!”
Nadella responded warmly: “Great to see you today, @sama. Love the new office!”

Behind the Scenes: Strategic Independence
Despite the friendly facade, the WSJ reports both companies are pivoting toward self-reliance. Microsoft reportedly hired a rival AI firm’s employee to develop in-house models, reducing reliance on OpenAI. Nadella and Altman aim to position their firms as standalone AI leaders, signaling a potential decoupling of their once-symbiotic partnership.
Public vs. Private Dynamics
While their social media banter suggests camaraderie, industry observers note the strategic shifts hint at underlying tensions. As the AI landscape evolves, the balance between collaboration and competition among these tech giants remains a focal point.
